The Barrel Extra Virgin Olive Oil is extracted from the ancient olive variety Koroneiki. These olives grow in groves on the eastern slopes of Mt. Taygetus, in the region of Lakonia (south Peloponisse). There, in perfect soil conditions, they thrive under the Mediterranean sun, allowing us to produce an olive oil of superior quality and taste. So perfectly in fact, that we're able to grow superior quality olives without the use of herbicides or pesticides. And since this is our family's legacy, we wouldn't have it any other way.
The olive trees are cultivated with total respect to tradition because they are of the same variety which have existed for centuries from the times of Ancient Sparta. They have become accustomed to this regional climate which is very 'special', because it is protected by the surrounding mountain range. The groves coexist with numerous aromatic wild plants and herbs such as oregano, thyme, lavender, and chamomile. The only water they receive is 'rainwater' and continuous sunshine for over 300 days a year. The herbs of sheep and goat in this area are the only source of natural fertilization.
